"[...] El planeta está abriéndose. Clay entra en él. Lo ve todo.

Ve los insectos en sus nidos y los reptiles nocturnos en sus túneles, ve las raíces de los árboles y arbustos, flores que se entrelazan, se retuercen y se extienden, y ve las rocas subterráneas y las capas de estratificación. Preciosos minerales relucen en la dividida corteza del planeta. Clay localiza lechos de ríos y suelos de lagos. Toca todo y es tocado por todo. Él es el dios durmiente. Él es la primavera que vuelve.
